COVID changed students’ career plans. Pre-pandemic, college students and recent graduates’ career plans were quickly upended. According to ZipRecruiter, open internships advertised on the platform fell by 31% last March. With internships cancelled and some positions challenged by remote work, students who moved back home found themselves unable to afford college and put more emphasis on financial security, while some tapped into their hobbies as side hustles. Others put their energy into activism and organized protests at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests and the presidential election. YPulse’s Life Plans, Rewritten trend report found that 56% of 13-19-year-olds say the pandemic made them reassess their career goals. (Teen Vogue)
