A fake climate change theory is going viral on TikTok after Joe Rogan discussed it on his podcast.

May 25 2023

A fake climate change theory is going viral on TikTok after Joe Rogan discussed it on his podcast. Seven TikTok videos about the false “Adam and Eve” theory—which claims that the Earth’s magnetic fields will cause catastrophe across the planet—saw more than 20M views in a few months, according to research from Media Matters for America. The videos include clips from an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which promoted the theory. TikTok recently announced plans to get rid of climate change denial content on the platform, promising to remove untrue videos to help “empower accurate climate discussions” and “reduce harmful misinformation,” as well as redirect searches for the content towards “authoritative information,” sourced in partnership with the UN. YPulse’s The TikTok Effect trend report shows TikTok is dominating young peoples’ screen time and though the Gen Z-favorite social platform is known for facilitating all kinds of conversation, that includes ones full of misinformation.
