But when it comes to Gen Z and Millennials’ top forms of entertainment, video games and user generated content beat out movies and TV. A recent Deloitte survey found that young consumers are “dividing their time between video games, user-generated content (UGC), and traditional entertainment,” which is ultimately having an impact on streaming services. The survey found that subscriber churn among streaming services for Gen Z and Millennials is 57% and 62% respectively over a six-month period. These gens ultimately play video games and watch UGC to be instantly entertained, but they’re also looking for social connection. The content they consume on a weekly basis proves they want to be engaged: half of the Gen Z and Millennial gamers surveyed said they “socialize more in games than in the physical world.” Now, the popularity of these alternative forms of entertainment are transforming the streaming media landscape. YPulse’s Media Consumption report data shows that social media is the number one place young people watch video content on a weekly basis, over streaming services, and our Gaming report data shows Gen Z especially is spending nearly as much time on video games as they are on traditional entertainment.  (Fast Company)
