No Borders, Just Flavors! is YouTube’s upcoming cooking competition show breaking down cultural barriers. Produced by United We Dream, “the country’s largest youth-led immigrant advocacy network,” the show will follow a cast of Gen Z and Millennial cooks who compete against each other with their traditional family recipes. Contestants from first- and second-generation immigrant backgrounds will prepare meals from their personal heritage, highlighting dishes like “salted egg tofu, a common delicacy in China and Indonesia, Indian panchmel dal (lentils) and seco de pollo (chicken stew), which is common in Ecuadorian and Peruvian cuisine.” The series is hosted by Morelys De Los Santos Urbano, “an Afro Dominican college student who founded an organization at Morgan State University to support undocumented students like her” and also features guest judges like TikTok food content creators and chefs. Most importantly, the show is looking to spotlight “diverse immigrant stories that don’t center on tragedy and hardship” and instead focus on “stories of joy, courage, and wisdom.” YPulse’s Cooking and Diets report data shows young people of color are more likely to watch online videos about food than their White / non-Hispanic peers—and are also more likely to agree: “Cooking is a creative outlet for me.” (NBC)
