TikTokers are remembering the early days of 2020 as they cope with the reality of the past two years. Young people have found ways to revive the ‘90s, 2000s, and even 2010s (remember when they were trying to revive 2014?), and now, a new kind of nostalgia is setting in, nostalgia for 2020, that is. Except, instead of actually wanting to bring back the year 2020, they’re remembering the defining aspects of the early days of COVID-19 via trending TikTok songs and popular activities of the first lockdown like making homemade bread, whipping up dalgona coffee, and playing Animal Crossing for hours on end. One TikToker dubs this nostalgic “trend” as “2020core” explaining, “We all went through an insane period of human history together, and people are still kind of processing their own trauma while still being able to celebrate the good things that happened.” (VICE)
