Gen Z is nostalgic for 2014.

Feb 09 2021

Gen Z is nostalgic for 2014. We already told you that young people are bringing back the 2000s, and 2014 seems to be the particular year they’re gravitating toward. The hashtag #2014aesthetic has 1.5 million views on TikTok, users are sharing “POV videos” of themselves dancing to songs by bands like the Arctic Monkeys, and many twenty-somethings are revisiting their older Tumblr content, while teens are “imagining what it might have been like back then.” Meanwhile, American Apparel tennis skirts (the “crowning jewel of 2014”) are up for resale all over Depop. However, the “2014 trend” is more about “Gen Z’s interpretation of the era, rather than an accurate representation of what things were really like” as many of them fantasize about attending 5SOS concerts, wearing high-waisted Levi shorts, oversized sweatshirts, and donning dyed hair and nose piercings.
