Netflix is betting on more interactive content to differentiate itself as a streaming service.

Feb 28 2022

Netflix is betting on more interactive content to differentiate itself as a streaming service. Created by two Black Mirror: Bandersnatch creatives, Cat Burglar is a new choose-your-own-adventure-like Netflix series featuring a Tex Avery-style cartoon “that pits petty thief Rowdy Cat against a museum security dog Peanut in a heist full of hijinks.” Similar to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, viewers can control the narrative. Except instead of the audience controlling a branching narrative, they must correctly answer trivia questions to keep the story moving. After getting fed up with the creation of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the creators were convinced they would never create interactive content again until they figured out how to gamify Cat Burglar—making it a more seamless experience for both the producers and viewers. YPulse predicted that the gamification of entertainment would continue well into 2022, so consider Cat Burglar the first of potentially many interactive offerings from the platform. (Fast Company)
