Euphoria is redefining how shows emulate the teen experience through music. YPulse told you how Euphoria has been taking over young people’s entertainment / social media consumption since the start of the year, and though the show “paints a fantasy of teen life rather than a faithful depiction,” its soundtrack proves how teen shows aren’t just for teens anymore. Rather than just using today’s top pop hits to bring this fantasized depiction of the teen experience to life, older tracks like Bobby Darin’s “Call Me Irresponsible,” and Orville Peck’s “Dead of Night” are featured throughout the show. Naturally, the show’s music has also boosted streams on Spotify: Sinnead O’Connor’s “Drink Before the War” surged by 26, 900% after it was featured on the show. As one Euphoria music supervisor explains, “We wanted to stay in our world and use the music as an interesting storytelling device [and a] very prominent character in the show,” acknowledging how it fuels the dreamscape that is Euphoria rather than trying to fit into what people expect a teen narrative to be.
