TikTok is the new holiday gift guide for young shoppers. YPulse’s holiday shopping plans research shows that 42% of young holiday shoppers get gift ideas for others on social media, and TikTok is becoming a go-to resource for discovering the most-desired gifts this season as TikTokers curate gift guides and share their personal wishlists. #ChristmasWishList2021 and #ChristmasList2021 count 34 million and 10 million views, respectively, featuring montage clips from users sharing this year’s hot products—and some of the top posts under the tags feature products from Converse, Jordan, Lululemon, Ugg, and Alo Yoga. The New York Post and ET are listening to the recommendations of TikTok creators by publishing their own gift guides based entirely on products featured in their list of recs. Last year, a TikTok survey found that 80% of users who bought something on Black Friday said the purchase was motivated or inspired by TikTok, and a November survey from McKinsey shows that 87% of Gen Z consumers are planning to use TikTok to find holiday shopping inspiration this year.
