Snapchat is teaming up with Sony Music Entertainment to bring more music and AR music lenses to the app. Sound and augmented reality on Snapchat are growing in popularity: the company notes that since launching Sounds, 521 million videos have been created using music from its Sounds library—not to mention the 200 million users engaging with AR on the platform daily. Snapchat recently inked a deal with Sony Music Entertainment to bring their artists’ music to the platform, and will soon showcase new AR features via “Sound Lenses” and “Cameo Sound Lenses.” Sound Lenses will transform users’ pictures to appear as if they’re singing a song while Cameo Sound Lenses applies visual effects. With music on TikTok playing a primary role in how users create content on the app, Snapchat is doubling down on its music features by combining it with something Snap knows best: augmented reality.
