TikTok is making moves to get rid of climate change denial content on the platform ahead of Earth Day. YPulse’s The TikTok Effect trend report shows TikTok is dominating young peoples’ screen time and though the Gen Z-favorite social platform is known for facilitating all kinds of conversation, that includes ones full of misinformation. But TikTok is tackling content that denies science-backed evidence and “undermines well-established scientific consensus” of climate change by removing videos to help “‘empower accurate climate discussions’ and ‘reduce harmful misinformation.’” To redirect searches for the content, the platform will push them towards “‘authoritative information,’ sourced in partnership with the UN.” (Sky News)
