Hiring managers are shook that Gen Z is asking about work-life balance right off the bat. Today’s workforce is all about transparency—and Gen Z is driving the trend. We’ve seen them advocate for the benefits they really want and now they’re cutting straight to the point in their first-time interviews. Expectations around work-life balance are especially important to this generation, who values a life outside of work, especially coming out of the pandemic; so it makes sense that they want potential employers to cut to the chase. Some professors and hiring managers are opposed to asking the question too early in the interview process, but others believe companies need to adapt, otherwise they’ll be losing out on Gen Z talent.
