A group of academic and tech leaders, including Elon Musk, are begging companies to press pause on the development of artificial intelligence tech. In a letter sponsored by the Future of Life Institute (an non-profit focused on long-term risks to humanity), Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang joined hundreds “calling for a six-month pause on AI experiments” that are more powerful than OpenAI’s recent version of GPT4. Addressed to companies like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft, one of the most stand-out questions in the letter asks, “Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us?” YPulse predicted that AI will become a norm for Gen Z this year—and we’ve quickly been proven right. On TikTok, the hashtag #ChatGPT has over 1.7B views and #AI has over 17.9B views—showing just how much content these services can inspire. (Washington Post)
