Gen Z dating app Snack is letting users create AI-powered avatars to go on dates for them.Founded in 2021 primarily for the next generation of daters, Snack has a TikTok-like interface, and has made attempts in the past to combat some typical dating app follies—last year, for instance, the app introduced a feature that would make users invisible if they ghosted too often. Now, the app is offering the chance to do away with human-to-human interaction altogether: users can now make AI-trained avatars of themselves, who then go out into Snack’s virtual dating world to chat with other users. If the avatar thinks they’ve met a match, it’ll report back to the user, who can then decide whether or not to strike up a live conversation. Dating apps have become the norm for young consumers, and especially for Gen Z, who don’t know a time before dating was digital. However, many are experiencing “swipe fatigue”—which could make avatar dating seem appealing (if not a little dystopian). (Fast Company)
