Film cameras are the latest analog product young people are bringing back.

Jan 18 2022

Film cameras are the latest analog product young people are bringing back. YPulse has told you all about Millennials’ obsession with polaroid cameras and vinyl, and as young people continue making analog products like wired earbuds and flip phones “cool” again, film cameras are joining the list. According to eBay, sales of vintage film cameras have steadily increased since 2015, with Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Leica sales experiencing an increase of around 42-79%. Etsy also notes growing consumer interest in SLR cameras, observing a 76% increase in searches on its site within the last year. Gen Z and Millennials have grown up during a digital technology boom, making analog products that much more appealing as these gens find ways to experience the beauty of “simpler times.” As one Millennial puts it, film has an “inherent cool factor that’s hard to describe…and as we get more deeply entrenched in our own digital worlds every year, I think the magic of film becomes even more enchanting.” (NYT)
