McDonald’s is teaming up with OfflineTV for a virtual pop-up experience. Featuring a group of eight gamers and content creators with over 2 million YouTube subscribers, the virtual pop-up event (running now through December 17) allows users to participate in a VR scavenger hunt for the chance to win exclusive digital merchandise. OfflineTV recently held a similar in-person pop-up event, and the digital activation gives fans who couldn’t make it a chance to attend virtually. The pop-up marks McDonald’s first event in the metaverse, although the fast food restaurant has been dabbling with the digital world for some time—a 360 VR experience was available via the McDonald’s app when the BTS meal was running, while the brand released its first NFT last month to commemorate the return of the McRib sandwich. YPulse’s Future of Experience trend research shows 61% of 13-39-year-olds say attending an event virtually helps them feel more included when they can’t attend in-person. (AdAge)
