The British Fashion Council added an award category to recognize virtual fashion. Virtual spaces took off during the pandemic, and existing fashion brands have infiltrated the space with exclusive digital wears, including Gucci, Nike, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and more. New digital-only fashion brands have also emerged, creating a never-before-seen direct-to-avatar fashion economy. Recognizing this growing market, the British Fashion Council created a new award category—known as “metaverse design”—in partnership with Roblox, the online gaming platform that has pioneered the rise of fashion inside the metaverse. Naturally, the award will be presented by a digital avatar of Gucci’s creative director inside a Roblox experience, and players will be able to explore a virtual version of the Royal Albert Hall to watch the awards.
