Pokémon GO is turning Circle K locations into game hot spots to boost engagement with young users.Five years later, Pokémon GO is still wildly popular among young people and the game is finding new ways to expand its AR offerings as virtual experiences continue booming. The game is teaming up with Circle K to turn 14,000 retail locations into hot spots, placing AR Pokéstops and gyms (places where players can train their Pokémon and purchase game items) in each Circle K to help drive foot traffic. Players who participate at Circle K locations will receive discounts, coupons, and special offers for the convenience store’s products. Meanwhile, Pokémon GO’s parent company, Niantic, teamed up with Nintendo to launch a new AR game (Pikmin Bloom), and has spent the past months revamping its Lightship platform to help developers create their own AR games.
