Young shoppers plan to use social media to find holiday gifts this year. According to a new report from Brightpearl.com, 68% of Gen Z consumers plan to use social commerce tools to shop for holiday gifts. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube are the top five “alternative” places they plan to shop from. Meanwhile, YouTube is planning a week-long live shopping event, “YouTube Holiday Stream and Shop,” that will kick off on November 15. Consumers can shop new products, unlock limited-time offers, and engage with creators and participants through Q&As and polls during the event. YPulse’s holiday shopping plans research found that 44% of young holiday shoppers plan on getting their gifts online and in-store, and as social commerce and shoppable content become more popular, shopping on social media is another way young people are discovering the season’s hot products.
