Snap’s new original series makes Snapchatters the stars of a deepfake-fueled sketch-comedy show. Snapchat’s young user base (primarily with Gen Z) has remained strong for the past five years according to YPulse’s Social Media Deep Dive trend research, with 61% of Gen Z and 40% of Millennials saying they go to the platform to chat with friends and family. Now, a 10-episode Snap original series—The Me and You Show—is leveraging Snapchat’s Cameos (a feature that uses deepfake technology to insert someone’s face into a scene) to turn Snapchatters into the lead actor in personalized comedy skits alongside their best friends. According to the social media platform, the goal of the series is to “deliver a show in which any person could play any role, regardless of gender.” The first episode in the series debuts October 1 with the following episodes dropping weekly, and users can drop themselves in the skits by uploading selfies taken with the Snapchat app’s camera. YPulse told you how brands have been tapping into Snapchat’s massive growth, and while TikTok is constantly taking over headlines, Snapchat remains a top platform for engaging with young consumers.
