From TikTok to Instagram, online shopping has become “unavoidable.” It’s no secret that online shopping has taken off during lockdowns, and for young consumers scrolling social media is like window shopping, with apps like TikTok influencing their purchases.​​​​​ According to an Insider Intelligence report, social commerce shoppers grew by 25% during the last year, from 64 million to 80 million who make purchases through apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. YPulse’s Retail’s New Reality trend report found that 73% of 13-39-year-olds are open to buying products on social media, and now many of these platforms are investing in social features that way users can shop directly through the app like integrating live shopping functions and algorithms that reportedly boost creators who post several times a week.
