Are food lockers are the future of the restaurant industry? During COVID, fast food brands have been finding new ways to reach young consumers, and chains like KFC, Burger King, and Smashburger have announced they’re bringing food lockers to locations as a way to continue contactless food pickups. Think of them like Amazon Lockers located in neighborhoods, apartment blocks, and stores—but this time just inside restaurants. The devices vary in size, and can be heated or chilled to keep food at the perfect temperature until customers can pick them up. They also help with social distancing and eliminate the need for customers to have to interact with restaurant workers when it isn’t necessary, or reduce the amount of waiting time. YPulse research shows that while 54% of young people are currently visiting quick service restaurants, 46% aren’t yet comfortable. (Business Insider)
