TikTok is signing major music licensing deals. The platform is “ramping up” its music focus and inking agreements with agencies(though not with any “majors” yet) to legally bring catalogs of music into the app. The first publicly announced deal is with Merlin, which will give TikTok (and Bytedance’s newly launched streaming app Resso) music from the tens of thousands indie music labels and artists that Merlin represents. The news supports forecasts that music would be an even bigger part of the app’s future. (TechCrunch)
