More than half of Americans played video games during the pandemic.

Jan 07 2021

More than half of Americans played video games during the pandemic. According to Nielsen’s SuperData’s 2020 report, 55% of people picked up video games during the first phase of lockdowns as a way to escape boredom and reality and to socialize with others. Of course, gaming is especially vital among Gen Z and Millennials: YPulse’s Gaming report found that 94% of 13-39-year-olds play video games in some capacity—with 89% playing mobile games, 80% playing on consoles, and 71% playing on computers. Games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Among Us became breakout hits in 2020, with the latter ranking among young consumers’ favorite video games of the year. While SuperData thinks the numbers won’t spike in 2021 as much as last year, they predict that “the long-term habits formed during lockdown are here to stay.” (The Verge)
