British Gen Z is driving a birdwatching boom. New data from Fifty5Blue shows that birdwatching is the second-fastest growing hobby among young Brits, right behind jewelry-making. The report found that 750K 16-29-year-olds in Britain routinely enjoy watching birds—a 1,088% increase since 2018. For Millennials, regular birdwatching rose 216% and a 66% increase for Gen X. For a generation craving slower, offline moments, birdwatching—once considered an old-fashioned, niche pastime—has become the perfect low-cost and outdoorsy hobby. The birdwatching trend reportedly has some positive long-term health benefits, too: a recent study found that birdwatching can slow age-related cognitive decline. (The Guardian)
