Olympians are also going viral for their breaking medals.

Feb 12 2026

Olympians are also going viral for their breaking medals. Between celebration videos and joking posts (especially from the young athletes), this year’s medals are being shown falling off their ribbons. Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam posted a TikTok with her gold medal, which then promptly fell to the ground. A video of German biathlete Justus Strelow also caught his bronze medal breaking in real time. But the post getting the most attention is from 20-year-old U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu, who’s gotten over 34M views and 6M likes in three days on her TikTok captioned, “I just got this Olympic gold medal, already broke it.” Even the official Olympics account commented, “Ate, left no crumbs 💅,” pulling in 240K likes. The Olympic committee is reportedly taking this problem very seriously—though the content seems to be a positive. (The Daily Dot)
