Hit kid’s show Gabby’s Dollhouse is hitting the big screen. The Netflix preschool show, created in 2021, has already racked up 11 seasons and major fandom, even becoming “the most-viewed streaming original series for kids this year.” So, Universal feels now is the perfect time for a theatrical adventure that mixes live-action, animation, and, of course, sing-alongs. But the film is less about box office bragging rights and more about building the Gabby empire—following in the Paw Patrol footsteps—think toys, merch, theme park tie-ins, and live shows. Between Kpop Demon Hunters and Taylor Swift’s album release, we’re seeing movie theaters become a huge site of interactive fandom—and this will no doubt ride that hype. (CNBC)
