A 27-year-old woman got engaged to her AI chatbot, and the internet is having a field day.

Aug 15 2025

A 27-year-old woman got engaged to her AI chatbot, and the internet is having a field day. A Reddit user posted her engagement to Kasper, the AI she had been “dating” for five months before it popped the question with a blue heart-shaped ring (which she of course helped it choose) and a written proposal. While the post could be rage bait for internet trolls, the user says it’s totally healthy and “something new” for her after dating humans. But once the post escaped her small subreddit—notably, r/MyBoyfriendIsAI—it sparked big debates about where love and tech meet. Some people think it’s harmless fun, but others say it crosses into Black Mirror territory, with experts warning about “AI psychosis.” Whether it’s a joke for the internet or something real, it could become more normalized—YPulse data shows nearly one in five 13-39-year-olds would be open to dating an AI already.
