An Italian ski resort was overwhelmed by tourists after an influencer posted TikToks of her trip. Roccaraso is a small ski resort only a few hours off Napoli, but influencer Rita De Crescenzo’s posts brought it under the spotlight. In just one day, 220 buses from Napoli brought over 10K tourists in—nearly 10 times the small town’s own population. As many tourists behaved poorly, leaving trash behind, the mayor of Roccaraso described the situation as “hellish” and “a real assault” on his local community. The rise of mass tourism in recent years have led some local councils in Italy to introduce measures to curve the trend, such as the introduction of a tourist tax in Venice. (CNN)
