Despite Netflix’s growing library of kids’ content, YouTube is becoming more popular among these young viewers. Nielsen data shows YouTube’s viewership among 2-to-11-year-olds in the U.S. has increased while Netflix’s share has declined. For example, CoComelon, which is available on both platforms, received over 2.6B views on YouTube in February 2023 alone—while Netflix reported its first season being viewed for 136M hours in all of 2023. YPulse’s Media Consumption report shows eight in 10 parents say their children are using streaming services to watch video content weekly, but the challenges of building new franchises in the “fragmented streaming market” have even caused major streamers to reduce their investments in children’s programming.
