Gen Z and Millennials are still interested in real Christmas trees. Despite TikTok users sharing alarming discoveries in their Christmas trees (including mantises, spiders, and owls), reports suggest young consumers are still driving a surge in real Christmas trees this year. B&Q’s study indicates that 22% of Gen Z and 18% of Millennials prefer real trees, contrasting with 25% of Gen X and Boomers combined. The Real Christmas Tree Board’s survey affirms that younger gens are more likely to be first-time real tree buyers. However, the American Christmas Tree Association notes that 77% of those who celebrate Christmas will choose artificial trees for reasons like ease and lower maintenance. Plus, we know this year Home Depot had a pre-lit artificial tree go viral on social media, and young consumers sell out viral picks quickly. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
