Gen Z loves pop, but they love Laufey’s modern jazz even more. The 24-year-old, now Grammy-nominated singer, stole TikTok’s heart with her jazz album Bewitched. Only her second album, Bewitched made Spotify history with the biggest jazz album debut to date and has earned her a fanbase of young people who primarily listen to pop music. Her authentic songwriting highlights the ups and downs of young love to an audience she says has “a versatile pallet” and “[primarily] care about…relatability and storytelling.” She shares that despite jazz being an old-fashioned genre, her ability to tell stories that resonate with the younger generation is the root of her success.
