There is an emerging second-hand movement among designers at New York Fashion Week. Some of the most prominent designers in the fashion industry—including Diane von Furstenberg—are now urging consumers to turn away from new designs and instead shop secondhand; Furstenberg is even currently bowing out of fashion shows to sell secondhand pieces at her flagship store in New York. Another designer, Ulla Johnson, is curating vintage pieces from her collection for NYFW and promoting them at her New York store as well. She says, “Our stores are full of people retailers, editors, and influencers who are coming for fashion week, and we want to turn some of their attention to our vintage pieces.” YPulse research shows that the resale market is growing as Gen Z and Millennial consumers look to brands to provide sustainable shopping options.
