“FOBO”is becoming more prevalent amongst employees with college degrees. A recent poll from Gallup shows that the “Fear of Becoming Obsolete” is affecting workers now more than ever with the increased implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The fear amongst surveyed workers that had increased the most in recent years was the “fear that technology could threaten their job.” And with the ever-changing developments of AI technologies like ChatGPT, their fear is not unfounded. And what’s more, the poll saw that these concerns amongst college-educated workers rose from eight percent to 20%, whereas non-college-educated workers didn’t show increased concern (although they’ve expressed fears about technology in the past). While YPulse research shows that Gen Z and Millennials’ attitudes towards AI are mostly positive for now, there is still concern over what the future of their jobs look like as the tech grows.
