Golf—the previously “elitist” sport—is now going mainstream. The perspective on the sport is currently evolving, mostly due to the powers of social media, especially TikTok. As users hop online to post vlog-style videos, tutorials, or comedic sketches about golf, more and more people are tuning in. One account, St. André Golf, has amassed over 230K followers from their satirical golf videos and even filmed with Tiger Woods; one of the co-creators says, “it seems like this new golf boom has opened the door for all kinds of people to make golf-centered or golf-adjacent content.” Moreover, Gen Z-loved celebrities including Tom Holland and Harry Styles are picking up the sport, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie and TWICE’s Jihyo are turning golf wear into luxury style pieces, so golf is increasingly capturing the attention of this young gen as well. YPulse research shows that golf is amongst the top 10 sports Gen Z and Millennials are watching, and visibility into the culture of the sport is likely amping up these young gens’ affinity towards it.
