The “when you know the words to the song, sing along” trend is taking TikTok by storm. The original video of the silly sing-along game that creator Maddie Grace Jepson (@maddiegracejepson) started currently has over 6M views, and what seems like the entirety of the social media app is playing along. Users are taking to TikTok to post videos of themselves and their friends playing the game, where they sing one word of a song to the other players who try to guess the song name, and if they can’t, the person adds more and more words until the song is revealed. Jepson’s original post was captioned, “POV: I just made this game up on holiday and I’m forcing my lil sis to play it with me and sing the jingle every time xxx.” Clearly, other TikTok users are loving this trend just as much as her, and YPulse research shows that 55% of Gen Z and Millennials have discovered new music through social media—so future musical trends can count on appealing to young listeners on TikTok.
