Workplaces are finding that employees aren’t working from 4-6 pm as they take care of household responsibilities. As a result of the pandemic, the typical 9-5 schedule isn’t cutting it for workers anymore. Instead, they are working “triple-peak” workdays, which is when workers typically reach peak productivity in the morning, during late-afternoon, and later at night (around 10 pm), according to a study at Microsoft. One research manager at Microsoft says “You have to give everyone space to do it [work] on their terms. Some of them might have babies, some of them have teenagers, some of them might not have kids, but they work best at night.” YPulse’s What’s Next For Work report shows that Gen Z and Millennials view flexible work hours as one of the most important elements in an ideal job.
