Meals nicknamed “girl dinners” are going viral on TikTok. What can be compared to “an aesthetically pleasing Lunchable” has amassed over 30M views on the social media platform so far. But what exactly is a “girl dinner” and why is it gaining so much attention online? The user who started the trend explained that it’s essentially a collection of mish-mosh foods gathered on a plate, something “simple and satisfying” like cheese and bread, or an assortment of veggies and other snacks that typically women enjoy when their boyfriends / husbands aren’t around, who usually have a “typical dinner” of a protein, starch, and vegetable. Her video alone has gained over a million views, and started a movement of women on the platform who are sharing their love for “girl dinners” as well. YPulse research shows that Gen Z and Millennials agree that snacks are a valid and fulfilling meal. (NYT)
