The BoyKinZ are known as the “Black girls of country TikTok”—and are changing the country music industry as we know it.

The BoyKinZ are known as the “Black girls of country TikTok”—and are changing the country music industry as we know it. You may have seen The BoyKinZ, a quartet of Black sisters—Alona (16), Nytere (18), Anale (20), and Kylan Boykin (21)—from Georgia, perform with Shania Twain at this year’s CMT Awards. The group has gained a following of nearly 2M on TikTok and have been crowned “the future of country music” on YouTube. The sisters describe their sound as a country fusion: a blend of rock, soul, pop, hip-hop, and country—and their hit single “One More Time” is gaining traction across platforms. They’re currently working with top producers like Nathan Chapman on new music and ultimately, the sisters say they’re hoping to inspire other Black country music artists and become a household name in the industry. YPulse’s Music report shows that while only 14% of Gen Z and Millennial people of color say they listen to country music, young POC are more likely to enjoy music from various cultures—and The BoyKinZ are encouraging listeners to look at the roots of country music, which they say stems from “blues music and African instruments.” (Insider)
