Taking a break from social media has been proven to restore young users’ body image. Research from the American Psychological Association shows that “teens and young adults who reduced their social media use by 50% for just a few weeks saw significant improvement in how they felt about both their weight and their overall appearance compared with peers who maintained consistent levels of social media use.” Young people can spend eight hours or more on social media daily and are exposed to fitness and fashion models that showcase unrealistic beauty ideals. YPulse research shows that over half of young girls say social media makes them feel bad about their appearance and that photo editing / filters have become standard for them. (APA)
