Music artist Jewel is bringing mental health to the metaverse. Jewel has long been an advocate for mental wellness among children with her Inspiring Children Foundation. Now she’s co-founded Innerworld, a virtual platform with funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health (proving this won’t be another therapy app disaster). Available in virtual reality on Meta Quest and on flat screens via Mac, PC, iPad, and iPhone, users can create an avatar and “find immediate resources on topics including coping with depression, loss, anxiety and ADHD; peer support groups for things like chronic illness and addiction recovery; and one-on-one assistance.” While the future of the metaverse is up in the air, YPulse’s Causes / Charity and Activism report shows that mental health is the top cause young people care about most, and more ways to access care can never hurt.
