Starbucks’ CEO says the company’s labor movement is a sign “things have gone sour” for young people.

Feb 23 2023

Starbucks’ CEO says the company’s labor movement is a sign “things have gone sour” for young people. While Starbuck’s drinks are still popular among young consumers, their young employee base says they’re underpaid and over worked. Young, frustrated Starbucks employees are continuing to unionize, but on-again off-again CEO Howard Schultz thinks Starbucks provides enough benefits like healthcare plans, stock options, and college help, to make a union unnecessary. While he acknowledges that young employees have a right to unionize, the company has a right to respond with a “different vision.” The group of employees who make up Starbucks Workers United say they want “power sharing and accountability.” Senator Bernie Sanders has formally addressed the “company’s lack of compliance with Federal labor laws,” and a representative of the brand is set to testify to Congress next month.
