CoComelon is getting a spinoff starring JJ’s best friend. We told you that CoComelon has become one of YouTube’s biggest success stories, and now Netflix has made it even more of a mainstream success. (Whether Millennial parents like it or not.) It’s become such a phenomenon that kids can’t stop asking for toys from the series. To capitalize on its popularity, Moonbug Entertainment is launching It’s Cody Time, a new spinoff musical series on YouTube about JJ’s best friend and neighbor, Cody Green. According to the company, the preschool series will follow a similar format and center on “common themes of childhood fun and celebrating big moments for little kids.” The series will also focus on Cody’s family, including his dad, Kwame, who is a chef and is of Jamaican and Ghanian descent, and his mom, who is Black and works as a full-time pediatrician. YPulse’s Representation in Action trend report found that more than half of Millennial parents have had their child watch a TV show / movie because it featured a diverse cast—and according to Moonbug Entertainment’s general manager: “Representation matters and we want to bring more content with diverse lead characters, inclusive storytelling and aspirational role modeling to children around the world.” (Romper)
