Instagram is testing a feature to make it easier for users to discover and support social causes. YPulse’s causes, charity, and activism research found that 77% of young consumers have taken an action to support a social cause / belief, and sharing a hashtag on social media is one of the top ways they’ve shown their support. As young people continue using social media to organize social movements, Instagram is testing a feature that will not only make it easier for users to learn about causes, but help them take action. When Instagram users search for hashtags associated with a social cause, they will be presented with three options: A “Support” button to learn more about the movement, a “Spread the Word” button to share the hashtag page with their friends via a DM, and a “Create a Fundraiser” button to start raising money for a cause. Instagram plans to roll out the feature to #BlackLivesMatter, #WomensRights, and #ClimateCrisis to start. (TechCrunch)
