MLB players will receive social media consulting to boost their engagement with young fans. The MLB Players Association is teaming up with influencer marketing agency Influential to make 1,200 active players a part of its network. Players will receive insights into understanding their reach, engagement, and other data points across all of their social platforms—Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, you name it—to help players better pitch themselves for brand deals and engage with young fans amid the league’s labor lockout. As one industry expert puts it, “[Gen Z fans] want to hear directly from players to relate to their experiences on and off the field,” and the league’s partnership with Influential will help them amplify their social media presence to do just that. YPulse’s Scouting Next Gen Sports Fans trend research shows 75% of young sports fans want to see more content from their favorite athletes off the court, and the MLB is on their list of top five favorite sports leagues.
