Student debt is (still) keeping young people from pursuing major life milestones. According to a survey by CNBC+ and Acorns, 45% of Gen Z and 43% of Millennials say student loans should be forgiven, and nearly half of people under 35-years-old who have student loans say it has delayed them from buying a home and investing their money. The emotional impact of having student loans is real, with 62% of Gen Z and Millennials saying their loans negatively affect their mental health. One of the top goals Millennials are working toward in 2022 is paying off debt according to YPulse’s life milestones and future plans research, and in the meantime, these generations are counting the days until the student loan crisis is addressed all together.
