Occasion dressing, “quiet luxury,” and low-rise jeans (sorry, Millennials) are among the fashion trends expected to take off in 2022. According to a Lyst report, some of 2021’s blowout fashion trends (like wide-leg / straight jeans) could be here to stay in 2022, and are being joined by number of new styles. Occasion dressing is expected to grow even more this year as consumers look for bold looks to complement their outings (so long as they don’t get canceled). Searches for low-rise jeans are still growing (up 58% year-over-year), while skinny jean searches are up 20% since November. And “indie sleaze,” a.k.a. the Tumblr aesthetic of the 2010s, is still inspiring searches for platform boots, sheer tops, and “naked” dresses. Free-flowing shapes are also in—“oversized” and “maxi” are among the most popular keywords for dress searches while searches for “oversized shirts” have increased 84% over the past two months. This style is also taking off via “quiet luxury,” which is described as the new capsule wardrobe as shoppers look to minimalistic, neutral-tone wears to compliment their everyday looks (searches for white shirts and wide-leg suit pants are up 40% and 25%, respectively). Additionally, leather loafers are also driving searches, and pieces that contain the keyword “mushroom” are also on the rise. (Sourcing Journal)
