Tinder is reportedly working on a feature to let friends hold swiping sessions together. Known as Swipe Party, the social experience unites friends by letting them engage in virtual swiping sessions—meaning users can get their friends’ opinions on their potential matches in real time. Swipe Party accesses a user’s phone camera and microphone so friends can “see and hear you while vetting prospects,” and both active Tinder users and non-Tinder users could have the ability to join a Swipe Party session via an invite code asking for their phone number, validating it with a code, then entering their name and date of birth before joining the party. Tinder’s Swipe Party signals the dating app’s move into co-browsing, similar to Apple’s SharePlay or co-watching videos with friends on Hulu, Prime Video, and Disney+’s co-viewing tools. YPulse told you how apps have been giving online dating an entertaining upgrade, and Tinder’s Swipe Party follows its recent, interactive Swipe Night—two examples of how the brand is doubling down on virtual experiences to engage young users.
