Pinterest is doubling down on its commitment to content creators with a new homepage redesign and “Creators Rewards” program. The social network is taking a note from TikTok with the redesign of its homepage that will now feature two user-experience modes: a Browse tab (a.k.a. regular Pinterest) and a Watch tab where users can vertically scroll through TikTok-esque Idea Pins (formerly Story Pins) created by content creators and influencers. The redesign comes as Pinterest deepens its commitment to users who create their own Pinterest posts and respond to how social media consumers engage with content. Idea Pins related to products (like lipstick) can also be paired with a Try On sticker for consumers to activate and virtually test the product, and content creators can earn commissions by using affiliate links to sites for products featured in their Idea Pins. A Creator Rewards program is also rolling out that will see Pinterest invest $20 million over the next year to pay influencers for posting content. YPulse’s social media research shows that 31% of Gen Z and 30% of Millennials use Pinterest. (WSJ, Ad Age)
