Young shoppers are embracing summer essentials, travel-inspired looks, and the “genderless aesthetic.” Young peoples’ fashion cravings are in full effect this summer with searches for dresses up 371%, searches for sunglasses up 198%, and beachwear up 192% compared to the first quarter of 2021, according to global fashion search platform Lyst. Nike’s Air Force One Sneakers is the top item female consumers are looking for, and Gucci is holding onto its reign as the “hottest brand” (a title it has held for four quarters straight). Celebrities have been also been serving up looks young people are #obsessed with, including Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez’s styling of Rodarte’s saccharine cottagecore-inspired print dress. Oh, and bucket hats are (surprisingly) still trending. Gender-fluid fashion is also growing in interest among men, and YPulse’s new Gender Blur trend research shows that 49% of young people have bought clothing that is gender neutral, while another 27% are interested in doing so.
